Environmental organizations support striking United Autoworkers (UAW), urge General Motors to agree to a fair contract
WASHINGTON, DC — A coalition of environmental organizations today sent a letter to Mary Barra, Chief Executive Officer of General Motors, expressing solidarity with the nearly 50,000 autoworkers striking against the corporation. The coalition urged Ms. Barra to agree to a fair contract for the workers.
“Corporate greed is the ultimate cause of our combined economic and environmental crises,” the letter reads. “As environmentalists, we support the United Autoworkers in their fight for good, family-sustaining jobs. Climate change and other environmental problems cannot be solved without investing in workers and supporting strong union contracts.”
